2 Seconds a Day #2

So for the past month or so I've been taking 2 second snapshots every day... I'll keep doing this for the rest of the year, but this is what I have so far from February and a bit of March.

Cairns: Big Roundabouts and Small Buildings

So, many of you would probably know by now that I was at Cairns two weeks ago staying with my lovely friend Johanna and her equally lovely family. If I can use a simile, Cairns is like an oversized jumper; it's spread out, but at the same time it's cozy (and can get ridiculously hot).

One of the things I always notice about cities is the presence or absence of big buildings. For some reason, I find that places with less high rise buildings have a lot nicer people. Cairns is one of these cities - the tallest building was around my height. Despite all the subjectivity, I honestly think this is what gives these places their charm. Maybe people are a lot happier because they can look up at night and actually see the stars.

Anyway, during my stay I also got a chance to meet some awesome people from the Cairns Pan Stars Steelband, who are playing at the Marysville Steel Pan Festival in April, check out this recording I did on my phone and enjoy the sweet Caribbean melodies.

I also visited Fitzroy Island and Cape Tribulation in the Daintree Rainforest, which are both really exquisite sights. You can't beat blue skies and natural beauty :) (Photos on Facebook?)

It's really nice to wind down sometimes and enjoy nature, people and places that smell good. As for me, I've just arrived home from the Gold Coast (where I was alone almost - cry for me), I love my bed.

PS - the roundabouts in Cairns are so big you could build a tennis court or two on them. Not even kidding.
